Evidence That Dogs Make Life Really Fun!

Funny thing, today I ran into two persons who are just like me, and they like me, have a chummy relationship with their canine.  I have to share all this with you because not only do Irene and John love their dog like I love my dog Athena, but I love that they named their dog Kiki.

“We adopted Kiki from Boxer Rebound, an organization that just saves and rehabilitates Boxers in IL.  Her name was Kaira, she was 6 years old at the time.   We didn’t like the name and we wanted to give her a Greek name.  Honestly,  I always thought it was hysterical to name dogs like people for example: Mike, Joe, Bertha.  A friend of ours had a dog and his name was Taki. Well, I thought that was even funnier.  So Kiki was a perfect fit for our new little girl, and the naming part of our newest family member made the personal connection even stronger.”

“My husband John never wanted a dog,  but I had always had a dog and furthermore I always had Boxers, so when I retired, I went to Boxer Rescue and told John that we are  getting a Boxer… Period.  Now John, who originally didn’t want a dog, is completely inseparable with Kiki!  She bosses him around and he just attends to her every need. I have a ton of pics of this little romance…the two of them together, one of which you are posting here.   I especially like the picture of the two of them dressed in matching cowboy outfits at a BBQ, which will crack up any sane person.   The pic of the two love birds sleeping on the couch, right after John made the rule: no dog on the furniture, is especially telling!”

The pic posted in this blog post is Kiki and John on a Sunday morning.  John has just woken up, and he is trying to read the paper, and Kiki, who has been waiting patiently for him to get up, is trying to coax him into taking her for a walk.  She just gets her face in there and lays in on the newspaper and does a little (to me annoying – but to John endearing) whimper-whine.  I couldn’t resist snapping this picture of John and his other woman!
Seriously, John bumps into me and he doesn’t say excuse me, or oh sorry Irene… BUT if he slightly disturbs Kiki it’s, “Oh Honey,  I’m so sorry!”

John grunts at me and Kiki gets, “ Hello my baby! What did you do all day?   Come on let’s go out and do pee pee.”

My husband is…… ( you can fill in the blank)

“Kiki is now 11 years old going on 12, which is very old for a Boxer.  Everyone thinks she is so young because of her ears, they were never cropped and she is female; the ladies tend to be smaller is size making for their youthful appearance.   Our Kiki sports a Greek key collar and a lovely pink tag with a heart on it (that John bought her- no cost too high for Kiki)  for daily wear.  Actually, Kiki has different color collars for different holidays, gifted from John of course.  I will admit,  I encourage this behavior because it’s loving and adorable.  Mostly though, if I want something, I always use Kiki as a beneficiary in my request, and things gets done lot faster!

“So truth be told,  I do encourage Kiki and John’s special bond and inseparable relationship, for it truly makes life a lot of FUN!””
