Your body is amazing; capable of self healing, mobility and most importantly the place where you dwell day in and day out! You would think that all humans would take good care of their bodies so that they could enjoy the way they move and feel every day- think again!
COMMON SENSE DICTATES THAT ONE WOULD EXERCISE BUT….
A new government study estimates that nearly 80 percent of adult Americans do not get the recommended amounts of exercise each week, potentially setting themselves up for years of health problems.
Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) analyzed survey data collected from more than 450,000 U.S. adults ages 18 and older who were randomly phoned across all 50 states. The survey revealed that only 20.6 percent of people met the total recommended amounts of exercise. The hard truth is that physical inactivity can lead to obesity and Type 2 diabetes, according to the CDC, while exercise can help control weight, and reduce the risk for developing heart disease and some cancers, while providing mental health benefits.
As written here before, I’m doing cardio and strength training, leading to my bike training for my 72 mile ride “Bike The West” in Lake Tahoe this June. This training will be completed with many variables and lots of discipline. It’s not where I started, but certainly I’m happy to be at this point in my life.
Over the years I have progressed in my workouts doing plenty of workouts on my own and with personal trainers too, but now Jill has introduced me to an efficient plyo/cardio/strength workout program that compliments my cardio and comes in the form of a video! As I focus on my last 6 pounds of weight loss, I am doing The Total Body Fix workout program with Autumn Calabrese on DVD. I love it. The workouts are focused on high fat burning movements and each workout is only 30 minutes in length. Autumn’s energy is contagious, motivating and she offers simple direction to make each workout day fun and doable. The fact that I can take this DVD workout anywhere I go and pop it in a player to quickly get my exercise in, is a bonus for me. When I go to Florida, Autumn is coming with me! You may or may not like the workouts, but keep in mind, each exercise can be amped up or modified to your level of fitness.
SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING
In any event, consider just getting up and moving. A walk around the block may be your starting point, or maybe you want to train for a 5K, or possibly you want to do easy laps at the pool. If you are in great shape, think about preparing for a half Ironman. Whatever your fitness dictates, pick a physical activity that you enjoy, and schedule it in your week, every week.
The person who can manage their own health and their own life is a person who can manage others. In today’s world, it’s important to present yourself in a strong and healthy way so that you can do the work that you are called to do. Start with tightening, toning and strengthening your muscles, and that begins by your brain telling your body what and how to do it!!!
