One Essential You Must Not Skip- WATER
TGIF and we made it to #FunFriday! We started the party early by attending Hellenic Night at the White Sox game last night, and it was a ton of fun.
The Greeks set up a blue tent ( National colors of Greece..blue and white) and tables of Greek edibles from shish kabobs to Pasticho.
HOT SUMMER NIGHT
Certainly it was beautiful at US Cellular Field, but it was also steamy hot! Temps hovering at about 95 all day and about 90 in the evening. It was a day and evening that called for HYDRATION! I especially realized this when a slight headache was coming on from the heat. During these dog days of summer as you are out and about, mingling and jingling keep yourself healthy and fresh with water.
“Think of water as a nutrient your body needs that is present in liquids, plain water, and foods. All of these are essential daily to replace the large amounts of water lost each day,” says Joan Koelemay, RD, dietitian for the Beverage Institute, an industry group.
Kaiser Permanente nephrologist Steven Guest, MD, agrees: “Fluid losses occur continuously, from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool, and these losses must be replaced daily for good health,” he says.
When your water intake does not equal your output, you can become dehydrated. Fluid losses are accentuated in warmer climates, during strenuous exercise, in high altitudes, and in older adults, whose sense of thirst may not be as sharp. When you are outdoors in the heat or exercising – replenish the water in your body and of course if you are sweating from workout or you’ve had a massage add two glasses of water to your day.
Drinking Water Helps Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids. Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. This research taken from WebMD.com
1- Water can help control your weight by keeping you full longer
2- Water helps energize your muscles by maintaining balance of fluids and electrolytes
3-Water keeps skin looking fresh by avoiding excess fluid loss- when you are dehydrated your skin looks old and wrinkled
4-Water helps your kidneys as it transports waste products in and out of cells
5-Water helps avoid constipation, which can be very uncomfortable, by keeping the water from pulling from colon for hydration.
OVER HALF YOUR BODY IS COMPOSED OF WATER- DO YOU SEE WHY IF LOSE IT AND DO NOT REPLENISH IT YOUR BODY WILL BEGIN TO MALFUNCTION???
Such a simple essential to add to your day, and such an easy method of maintaining overall health through hydration is to DRINK MORE WATER.
