YOGA- Train The Muscle Between Your Ears
Getting over an illness that sucked the life out of me, and I’m happy to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not easy for the Roadrunner- me, to slow down and take a deep breath, and because of this change of pace I’m doing a new workout. Indeed, I am doing YOGA!
Yoga is a practice that I’ve steered clear of forever because truly I wasn’t ready, until now. I need Yoga in my life for a variety of reasons; to slow down, stretch, open up, breathe deeply, lengthen muscles, strengthen the mind and body and focus on what’s really important-MINDFULNESS. Vytas, featured on Team BeachBody’s on demand programs, is my outstanding teacher and I love the simple way in which he instructs.
While the poses I am learning are basic 101, this picture illustrates a highly advanced pose that I only dream of doing, but I wanted to share Vytas’ expertise.
Yoga Retreat is 30 days long, I just finished Day 4 today. Although Yoga is energizing, it is truly a good workout. For those hard core athletes, aggression and Yoga do not go together. Yoga is a practice designed to turn you inward, and it’s not about pain, but you could experience discomfort. So far, when I’m doing Yoga, my body parts that are stiff, naturally move into a stretch, which relieves my stiffness. I love that I’m forced to move slow and controlled, all the while focusing on my breath. Yoga is for all ages and levels of fitness, and athletes especially love Yoga for staying loose and limber. Today, Day 4, Vytas reminded us on the video, that Yoga is brilliant for training the muscle between your ears; your mind; this fact alone is reason enough to practice YOGA. Another very good reason, is to relieve stress and anxiety.
LIFE MOVES TOO FAST
Life should be full and fun, but most agree that it passes by in the blink of an eye. The pace of life can put a strangle hold on us if we do not manage our time and activities, Yoga is a simple and natural way to keep life in balance. I have enjoyed the simple moves like MOUNTAIN, WARRIOR, SUN SALUTATION, DOWNWARD DOG, TREE POSE and Love the BRIDGE. Fitness Magazine features beautiful explanations of these poses.
Thank you for allowing me to share my assimilation into YOGA, and quite possibly you will give it a chance. Keep in mind that all you need is a mat and your body. Classes are held everywhere, but for me the instructor and location are crucial to my consistency and interest in continuing the workout.
