HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY TO YOU.  May the road rise up to meet you ...... Today my workout homework was to do a long run, a 6-mile run.   OF course last summer when I was training for the half, my long runs ranged from 6 to 13 miles on the weekend.  Every week I went out in the 80-90 degree heat and ran my homework, and in August I completed my first half marathon.  What jubilation I felt.  I did it, ...

Renew Kefi With A Good Cleansing

News image

I believe in goals, creating and implementing plans, and working towards excellence. Every once in a while that process entails doing an about face, breaking from the routine and making way for a good cleansing and time of reflection leading to that ultimate quality we seek. Lately, that is what I have been up to, cleansing and purging. I have been contemplating what has not been working in my life and what will work in my day-to-day living in the fo...

Eating, Energy And More Pertinent Things

BEFORE & AFTER PICTURES OF KIKI KEFI  When I look at the heavier me pictured to the far left, I cannot believe that I let myself lose my KEFI.  Looking back to 2006 at the fast pace I kept, the schedule of managing 6 people including myself, the demands of family and career, I now understand why I turned into such a "BIG GIRL."   The important thing is that I was always searching for a healthier way of living and looking. &n...

In and Out

As you move through the first month of 2012 be mindful of your energy level and understand that your result will be in direct proportion to what goes IN and what comes OUT.  I have learned that positive thoughts yield positive actions, nutritious food in your tank nets a healthy body, and verbalizing empowering words causes the person listening to be motivated and energized.  Keep your flow smart, bright and sunny and why not?  Wouldn't you rather be strong and ...

Happy New Year!

Dear friends in KEFI, 2012 presents a new and relevant dawn rising, in which I want so much to share more of the qualities that persons closest to me say are my strongest characteristics; those being enthusiasm and positive energy. Like a good night’s sleep, it is my wish to restore your spirit and stamina to feel and look great, while encouraging you to grow into the most kefinated  (energized) person you have the potential to be!  Like all good things ...

My Expectations Exceeded In First Half Marathon

News image

The Chicago Rock n Roll Marathon series was a ton "o" fun Sunday, mostly because it was not 100 degrees with high humidity and secondly because this Greek was prepared to run the distance of 13.1 miles.   Lovers of vitality, I am still flying high from Sunday's events that took place in the heart of downtown Chicago beginning and ending at beautiful Buckingham Fountain.  Note: the experience of running with 30,000 people is enormously more energizing that training double digit miles al...

One day to 13.1-I'm Ready

News image

13.1 is a day away, and I am so excited.  This entire process of training, following a program, learning how to eat better, setting boundaries, keeping to the consistency, growing menatlly stronger and raising money for my friend Theofanis has contributed to my evolution, and improved me as a living human being. (sidebar: this is only the beginning)  Helen Keller was right when she said, "Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much!"  My husband and ...

10K Taper Ends With New Cubs Drink Of Choice

News image

With 7 days left until my first half marathon I'm feeling good about my progress right now after running a solid 10k upon my return from LA this evening.  I think the endorphins can be contributed to an earlier nap and a few days off of running.  My schedule got a bit goofed up this past week as I traveled bi-coastal from Florida to Los Angeles and the time change exhausted me. I caught a cold on the plane and fe...

How Much Do I Love You-My-Child?

News image

I signed up to run the Chicago Rock and Roll half marathon for me, but mostly I signed up for my son's little friend Thefonais and his family!  How do we discuss the subject of endurance without discussing the bravery and strength of a cancer patient?  Impossible -because the strength of a cancer patient is one who possesses internal faith, staying power, persistence, fortitude and patience.  My discomfort during training for the half marathon does not compare one iota to th...

Inspiration Keeps All of Us Going

News image

The power of inspiration is contagious!  I've discovered through training for my first half marathon that people innately enjoy rooting for another's success.  It feels good to help another person push through their challenges and possibly if we see a friend or family member succeeding with an endeavor we then feel that maybe we ourselves have potential to achieve our own accomplishments.  We inspire others to get moving on their dreams, and they inspire us to keep going on ours.  Inspiration is...

Panic Is The Enemy Of Our Imagination

News image

My half marathon training had me scheduled to run 12 miles as my long run this week, plus speed work a tempo run and workout/lift.  On paper it all looked good, but in my head I was thinking about the oppressive heat, which had me in a tailspin every day casuing me to wonder how I could do this long distance in the high humidity and temps hoovering at 90 in the morning and 104 in the afternoon.  Of course ...

Muscle Milk Recovers Me From Prinicple of Overload

News image

The last few days of my half marathon training have been going pretty well.   What I continue to discover and unerstand is that there are no perfect scenarios for working out, and certainly one must prepare for outside circumstances to mix things up and force you to adapt accordingly.  Last Monday our power went out, which meant that I could not hop on my treadmill to do my speedwork, so instead I went out for a bike spin.  My sc...

Marathoners Have All My Respect!

Training for my first half marathon has brought me to a new realization about marathoners-they are very disciplined and bold!  Every week I have been adding miles to get conditioned for the Chicago Rock n Roll, and yesterday I ran my first ever 10 miler.  My gosh was it tough at the end.  The heat did not help matters because my body was working harder than usual to cool itself and move.  The first 2 miles were descent, miles 3-7 ...

The Heat and Speed Work Are Good Tools

Happy Tuesday, and hope your fourth of July was spectacular! We spent the holiday with various friends and family doing a great deal of socializing.  Being social is fun, but too much can derail your routine, and it did to me just a tad this past weekend.   The mental aspect of training for an event equates to discipline with rest, food and limited drinks.  In my case, I kept an eye on my nutrtion concentrating on eating proteins, fruits and ...

Building on a base for half

News image

Half marathon training is coming along nicely with slow and steady progression.  First, allow me to tell you many people are excited for me to do my first half marathon, and each share with me great enthusiasm, but feel imtimated by the distance as I did last year when I slowly began adding miles. A half marathon after all is a long distance of 13.1 miles or half the distance of a marathon.  In 2008 Running USA reported that half ...

Great-Shave-Off and Half Progress

News image

"Adversity is like a strong wind.  It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are!" In times of adversity it is recommended to do as Theofanis does, take those sour lemons and make lemondae! That is excatly what my little friend Theofanis did last Saturday when he and his family hosted a lemonade stand at the GREAT SHAVE-OFF.  All of Theo's friends and their families from school ...

Why do a Half Marathon?

My journey to fitness and vitality has been in play since I was a teenager.  During the past 2 decades though I have gone on and off course as I worked crazy hours on numerous radio stations, got married, moved five times, gave birth to four children, slowly mounting my responsibilities, all the while attempting to keep “me” in check.  Not a real easy task for me to put me on the list, and that got me in a snag ...

Wouldn't you rather be strong and happy than miserable and droopy?  Wouldn't you like to feel and be successful?

Research shows that when people work with a positive mind-set, performance on nearly every level-productivity, creativity, engagement-improves. People who cultivate a positive mind-set perfrom better in the face of challenge, and we all know that life is full of challenges.

Train your brain to be positive every time you resist the urge to use dibilatiting words, BLOCK negativity, read uplifting material and follow the In and Out rule to ensure KEFI ENERGY!
